It was through these magically enlightening dolphin meetings that the mission became very clear. Dolphin Encountours was to establish herself in eco-tourism as the pioneers of Sustainable Dolphin Swim Programs in Southern Africa, with education, investigation and conservation steering her. Dolphin Encountours works closely with the Natural History Museum in Maputo as well as the Universidade Eduardo Mondlane. A % of our tours goes to dolphincare-africa for research and conservation.

Our Programs are structured, with dolphin behavior monitored prior to interactions in order to be non-invasive. Avoidance behavior results in us moving on within our study area to locate further pods. Eco-Tour participants receive a snorkeling course on day of arrival to ensure confidence in the water as well as an interesting and informative dolphin eco-swim briefing detailing our code of conduct and eco-swimming. Information on the dolphins and their complex behavior is covered to ensure one is prepared for the experience on all levels.

The kinds of interactions we have are solely dependent on the dolphin's behavior which ranges from observing their natural daily routines to having an experience lasting anything up to 40 minutes. Remember we are visitors in the dolphin's world and this has to be respected. All participants follow a no touch rule. Our dolphin boat launches from the protection of Ponta bay with experienced and passionate guides! Eco-swims are facilitated to safeguard the dolphins and offer in water assistance.

Angie facilitates the dolphin eco tours together with her crew and has for the last decade committed herself to sharing the watery world of the wild dolphin with man. The vision is to protect, conserve and educate and this is accomplished through creating an experience that awakens one to the desperate need of sustainable dolphin tourism.

Full tour participants staying with us have preference to early morning launches, when normally the sea conditions are at their best and the dolphins at their most sociable. The rest of the day is for you to do what you wish.

About Them!

Year of experiences with the resident dolphins of Ponta do Ouro on the southern most Point of Mocambique, has taught us that they are highly social beings with complicated relationships. They have taught us that there is a right time to swim with them and not, they have taught us that they are actually quite a lot like us, they too can be playful and funny, inquisitive and inspecting, they too can dance around...just like us! And of course; they can be cheeky, they can be grumpy, they can be aggressive and they can be sneaky, yep...just like us!

We have learned much from our magical finned friends and we invite you to come and witness the energy of the wild dolphin where early morning dolphin swims welcome in clarity and purpose before embarking on other journeys of discovery.

Leave your worries and the chaotic energy of the city behind you, as you remove your shoes and walk on the soft beach sand entering this unique Robinson Crusoe style eco-village that is right on the beach. It is here that one drifts off into peaceful slumber with dolphin experiences guiding you into dream-time, while the gentle rhythm of the ocean beckons dolphin dream time.

Magical and quaint, Dolphins Beach Camp had been home to us since 1997 and with direct beach access, early mornings are spent watching the magnificent sunrise, searching for dolphins, sussing out the waves and monitoring the wind before embarking on dolphin swims. Constructed out of local materials and wood the Dolphin Beach Camp offers a space that is tranquil and peaceful. Wind chimes and hammocks adorn this little island style paradise that has been decorated by Angie with a splash of trendy hip-ness encompassing all that is dolphin!

A wonder for kids, taking them into a space of nature, Robinson Crusoe style...no tv, no play station and no computer games. Just the beach, the dolphins and you!

Stylish ablution facilities are within and have hot water showers. The Dolphin BeachCamp houses our Dolphin Center and BeachShop as well as Angie's dolphin library.

Meals are served at the BeachCamp and are prepared fresh by our resident chefs Roxy and Tina. Brunches include fruit, muesli, yogurt, cereals, muffins and a cooked meal i.e.omelettes.

Dinners are set and a vegetarian option is available. Meals include Prawns, Portuguese Chicken, and Roast lamb served with a salad, local bread and dessert.

There is a small bar for dolphin clients selling local drinks only. Please bring your own fancy potions. Tea and coffee is available throughout your stay. We have no self catering facilities. Please bring your own drinking water however it is available at the bar.

Essence of the Dolphin "research + monitoring"

The Essence is limited to 6 participants only as we invite interns and scientists on board for monitoring. This tour is designed to allow guests as much time as possible on the water with the dolphins; monitoring and interacting with them. We launch at sunrise and spend most of the morning out on the water, traveling some 30km North to undertake filed work.

A special trip up north will ensure a magical snorkel on some of the most pristine and untouched shallow reefs in Mozambique. (Boat food and cool drinks are provided on the boat). Early evenings are spent, over a bottle of red wine, reviewing the information and footage captured that day. This tour always runs from a Sunday - Thursday, out of season, to ensure that the area is not busy with other boat operators. The Essence is the above Dolphin 4 night Full Tour with additional boat hours, brunches are served on the boat and it includes 3 dinners. This tour is ideal for small private tours. And can be run on special request.
