Xai Xai / general information

Xai-Xai is an idyllic tourist getaway with heavenly white sandy beaches, lagoons, fresh-water lakes and world-class resorts. The town is located 200 kilometres from Maputo, and lies on the banks of the mighty Limpopo River. A trip through the town engulfs you in warm local culture, with bustling markets where cashew nuts, fresh seafood and hand-crafted items are sold to tourists. Enjoy a sumptuous dish of world-famous peri-peri prawns, or sip on cocktails at beach bars at Praia do Xai-Xai, the most scintillating beach that Xa-Xai has to offer, watching the sun melt below the alluring Indian Ocean, as far as the eye can see.

Wake up to the sound of the waves gently lapping the shore and take long walks on untouched beaches. The beach is protected from the power of the ocean by reefs that fringe the shore, creating warm-water shell pools ideal to explore by snorkelling. Take a break from the amazing beaches to explore the fresh-water lakes within a half-hour’s drive, to try windsurfing or paddle-skiing, or simply float adrift in a kayak, admiring some of the amazing birdlife near the shore. Quad biking is another favourite activity: tear down muddy tracks in the midst of sub-tropical forests or zoom past local markets and road-side stalls, stopping only to buy cashew nuts and fresh seafood along the way. Deep-sea fishing, Candle-lit dinners on the beach, Ocean Safari’s that include dolphin and whale-sightings, as well as scuba diving along the amazing reefs, are just some of the other activities to indulge yourself in at Xai-Xai.
